Our Commitment to Gender Diversity: An Integral Part of Our Actions

International Women’s Day has been celebrated on March 8 since 1977. In 2020, the theme is I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights, aimed at advancing gender equality and empowering women. As part of its commitments, particularly its focus on promoting equal opportunity and helping young people succeed, TotalEnergies Foundation strives to bring about positive change. Here are some of the flagship initiatives we support.

TotalEnergies Foundation works to make vocational training accessible for everyone, in all industries. With this in mind, it took part in creating L’Industreet. This innovative campus, set to open at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year in Stains, is aimed at providing free training in industry professions to 400 young people without qualifications – half of them women. TotalEnergies Foundation also supports Becomtech, a nonprofit that promotes gender diversity in digital professions. As part of the Action! program, a number of female TotalEnergies employees draw on their own experience to help young women prepare for job interviews, an initiative led alongside nonprofit La Ligue des Jeunes Talents.

Stereotypes can prove hard to shake off: although 50% of girls now major in science in high school, only 25% of engineering students are women. To promote gender balance in industry and technology, our employees have taken part in seven projects run by nonprofit Elles Bougent, which aims to encourage women to pursue studies in the sciences to help diversify the talent pool in businesses, associations and higher education.

We firmly believe that, in order to achieve equality, women need to be empowered to follow their own paths and gain in independence. That is why TotalEnergies Foundation has partnered with Empow’her, a nonprofit that creates training programs and networking opportunities to help women all over the world become entrepreneurs. In addition, TotalEnergies Foundation supports a pilot project in Mali through You act we help! aimed at empowering women from disadvantaged backgrounds by professionalizing their work making a living from sorting garbage in landfills.

Lastly, since culture is also an important part of promoting equality and helping change attitudes, TotalEnergies Foundation is a corporate patron of the Arab Divas exhibition at the Institut du Monde Arabe from May 13 to September 6, 2020. From Umm Kulthum to Dalida, the event is a chance to discover the icons and pioneers who have inspired empowerment among generations of women.

Wherever possible, TotalEnergies Foundation is committed to helping all women achieve their full potential by taking part in business and community life.
