TotalEnergies’ French Corporate Foundation a Patron of the Jews of the East Exhibition

On November 24, the Jews of the East exhibition will open at the Institut du Monde Arabe (IMA) cultural center in Paris. After supporting Hajj, the Pilgrimage to Mecca in 2014 and Oriental Christians: 2000 Years of History in 2017, TotalEnergies Foundation is a proud patron of this new exhibition.

For thousands of years in the Arab world, coexistence among Jewish and Muslim communities has been a source of turbulent yet fruitful dialogue, helping to enrich artistic, cultural and intellectual life. The Jews of the East exhibition tells the story of this millennia-old healthy rivalry.

For this exhibition, the IMA approached many international museums and institutions, which agreed to lend remarkable pieces that have never before been shown in France. From Baghdad and Cairo to the Maghreb and Córdoba, these works give visitors an insight into the various aspects of this coexistence, from the first ties forged between the Jewish tribes of Arabia and the Prophet Muhammad, to the exile of the Jews from the Arab world.

Archaeological remains, paintings, photos, handicrafts, everyday items, and video and audio recordings are all a testament to the reciprocal influence that these two cultures had on each other and the way in which these exchanges are reflected in the arts, languages, customs, and scientific and intellectual thought.

Jews of the East Exhibition

At the Institut du Monde Arabe (Paris, France)
From November 24, 2021 to March 13, 2022

Jews of the East is the final installment in a trilogy of exhibitions on monotheistic religions in the Arab world held at the IMA since 2014. It follows on from Hajj, the Pilgrimage to Mecca and Oriental Christians: 2000 Years of History, also supported by TotalEnergies Foundation.

TotalEnergies’ French corporate foundation was keen to be involved in this world-class event as it promotes cultural dialogue, a value championed by the Company every day. In addition, as part of the exhibition, the IMA is running mediation actions for young people – a priority for the foundation, which focuses its support on cultural initiatives that help empower youth in vulnerable situations and promote social cohesion.
